Rhino’s surprise release of From The Mars Hotel: The Angel’s Share,
the Grateful Dead vaults have once again been opened.
Featuring 16 newly unearthed session recordings,
the digital collection brings listeners directly into
San Francisco’s Coast Recorders during the spring of 1974,
revealing the band’s real-time process as
they crafted such eternal staples as “Scarlet Begonias,”
“Ship Of Fools,” “China Doll,” “U.S. Blues,” “Unbroken Chain”
and more that would make up their classic From The Mars Hotel LP.
The evolution of all of those songs and
other album highlights is charted throughout
this fourth edition of the band’s fan-favorite Angel’s Share series.
Like previous installments that
accompanied milestone reissues of Workingman’s Dead,
American Beauty and Wake Of The Flood,
From The Mars Hotel: The Angel’s Share
brings together hours of expertly-curated outtakes,
alternate versions, acoustic mixes, ??
unexpected moments and revelations t
hat have never been heard or available on DSPs until now.
In honor of its 50th Anniversary,
From The Mars Hotel has also been reissued
and expanded with rediscovered material and rarities.
Out June 21st via Rhino,
six days before the album’s original release five decades ago,
From The Mars Hotel (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)
features remastered audio by GRAMMY Award-winning engineer
David Glasser, with Plangent Processes tape restoration and speed correction.
Produced for release by Grateful Dead Legacy Manager
and Audio Archivist, David Lemieux,
the deluxe edition includes demos of “China Doll” and “Wave That Flag”
? the song that became “U.S. Blues” ? as well as a previously unreleased live
performance of the Grateful Dead at University of Nevada-Reno on 5/12/1974,
where a massive wind storm was no match for the Wall of Sound.
From The Mars Hotel (50th Anniversary Remaster)
will be released on June 21st as a single 180-gram black vinyl LP,
limited edition Neon Pink vinyl, limited edition
“Ugly Rumors” custom vinyl exclusive to Dead.net,
and a specially-designed picture disc created
in partnership with zoetrope pioneer Drew Tetz.
When viewed with a camera or strobe, the zoetrope LP will appear to animate,
and can be pre-ordered now along with
the rest of From The Mars Hotel (50th Anniversary Remaster) variants.

先日 Up した T-Shirt に
プリントされていた音源が、
我が家にあるか調べてみたら、
全部ありました。

3 公演は、それこそ Taper さんの音源、
残り 6 公演は、Official 音源で
Release されていました。

発注から 6 日で到着、しかも送料 700 円。
これと比較すると他社はどうなってるんだ。



高い送料に Ship Mail から
配達に 約 3 週間はかかるのは当たり前。
これだけ海外に発注しているけど、
未だに送料を含めたこの仕組みだけは
理解不能です。

今回は、Taper さんに感謝と敬意を込めて購入しました。
見たところ、ほとんどの音源を持っていそうなので、
週末にでも調べてみよう。

今回は、2 Shows が収録されていますが、
2 日間とも、全体的に演奏のスピードが早く、
なんだか落ち着かない演奏に感じた。

ただし、
Tons Of Steel, She Belongs To Me
Keep Your Day Job などの演奏は嬉しい。

The procurement arrived after Dave’s Picks Vol. 48,
tied with Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley chart records in the fall,
establishing the intertwined legacy between Jerry Garcia,
Bobby Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, Phill Lesh, Mickey Hart,
and their following–steeped in a 60-year triumph as music industry tastemakers.
Dave’s Picks Vol. 49 presents a pair of Grateful Dead hometown shows,
both of which took place back-to-back at
Stanford University’s Frost Amphitheatre on April 27 and 28, 1985,
re-establishing their status as a Bay Area institution,
some 20 years into their run–Grateful Dead Legacy Manager
and Audio Archivist David Lemieux curated the music set.
Notably, Vol. 49 represents Dave’s Picks’ 41st title to enter the Top 40
and the Grateful Dead’s 45th Top 40 record to be released by
Rhino Entertainment.
The set debuted #1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales this week,
marking the first time the Dead have topped that chart-specific category. 
“This could be the most unlikely and unexpected record in music history,
and is a testament to a few things,” offered Lemieux via press release.
“First and foremost is the exceptional and consistent quality of
the Grateful Dead’s more than 2,000 live shows. On the heels of this is the loyalty
and passion of the many Dead Heads who have made this record possible.”
“And to top it off, the Grateful Dead have a partnership with Rhino
that ensures these many album releases are produced with care, love,
and respect for both the band’s music and legacy,
and the Dead Heads themselves.
It’s an honour and privilege to work for this community,
and our aim is to keep building on this record by
delivering the quality of recordings Dead Heads have come to expect for
many years ahead,” he concluded.

Dead & Company Forever

昨年、Last Tour と銘打って
興行を行ったのに、もう復活です。
それは Fan としては最高に嬉しいのだけど、
昨年、最後だからと大枚叩いて Last Tour を
観に行った人達の気持ちを考えると複雑です。
私だったら、詐欺とにあったと思うことでしょう。



今でも、今回のチケットは買えるし、
私も Sphere で週末 3 日間
Dead & Co を観れるのだから
行きたい気持ちはあったが、
チケット代や円安のことを考えると、
今回もスルーなわけです。



今回の復活は、少し複雑な気持ちになリました。

公演日を推理するのですが、
これだけ膨大な音源の記録があり
毎日違う演奏をしているからこそ成立する企画。

それを当てる強者 Dead Heads。
こんなにコアな Fan がいる Band、
それが Grateful Dead の凄いところだ。

また、こうして GD の音を知らない人達へ
これだけ沢山の音源を無料で提供してくれるのだから、
新しく GD の音にハマる世代に受け継がれていくのだ。
